Although many viewers are reading into the look Aubrey Plaza gave from the stage at the 2023 SAG Awards, there’s apparently nothing to see here. That’s according to her White Lotus season 2 co-star Jon Gries, who put to rest any speculation about potential conflict between the pair at Sunday’s awards show.

When the stacked cast of the hit HBO series won best ensemble in a drama series at the SAG Awards, many eyes were on Plaza and her seemingly upset facial expressions. Video shows Gries, who played Jennifer Coolidge’s neglectful onscreen husband Greg, whisper something in Plaza’s ear onstage. She then looks down at her Michael Kors Collection gown, which includes revealing cutouts, before later appearing to mouth “Jesus Christ.”

Speaking to Page Six, Gries explained that Plaza was “being blocked by about 15 people” onstage, so he told her to “look to the front.” He then said, “You might want to fix that first,” referring to the underboob that can be seen in Plaza’s gown. After their exchange, Gries claimed that Plaza was “just being funny” and “what she was intimating is why would that be a problem if my nipple is showing,” adding, “That’s her humor—She has that dry, dead-pan wit; that’s her biting wit.”

On Monday morning, Gries says he even texted Plaza to ensure there was no perceived “creepy moment” between them. “You weren’t really upset?” he texted. She allegedly replied, “No! Not at all,” and even joked that Gries had “saved” her from a wardrobe malfunction, he said.

Others speculated that Plaza may have taken issue with fellow White Lotus cast member F. Murray Abraham accepting the award on the sprawling group’s behalf. That’s not the case either, Gries told the outlet. “We wanted him to speak; we all wanted him to. He’s F. Murray Abraham! He’s a frigging legend,” he said.

Further proof that there’s no bad blood: Plaza posed alongside both Gries and Abraham in her Instagram post celebrating the evening. She captioned a set of photos from the SAG Awards: “Best cast ever! I love these people and am so proud of this show. Thank you @sagawards
