US-based DIY distribution platform DistroKid has officially launched its new DistroVid service that lets artists upload music videos to digital service providers.

The roll-out follows a beta launch in May.

DistroVid lets artists upload an unlimited number of music videos for a fixed fee, and artists keep 100% of their earnings from the videos that they upload through the service.

The launch partners for the new tool include Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL and Vevo and DistroKid says that more digital service providers are expected to come online in the coming months.

To upload unlimited videos for an individual artist, DistroVid membership costs $99 per year for DistroKid members and $129 for non-members.

Additional artist “slots” cost $49 per year on top of the standard subscription fee.

In addition to uploading to the the digital services mentioned above, DistroKid says that artists will also have the option to distribute their content to the so-called ‘DistroVid Gallery’, which it says is an upcoming collection of all music videos submitted to DistroVid.

The official launch of DistroVid comes 11 months after DistroKid accepted an investment from Insight Partners which valued the distribution platform at $1.3 billion.

Boston-based growth equity firm Silversmith Capital Partners, which led DistroKid’s first outside investment in 2018, retained “a meaningful ownership position” and remained on DistroKid’s board.

As reported last summer, MBW also understands that Spotify retained its minority stake in the distributor.

“Our new music video service, called DistroVid, makes it super easy & affordable for independent artists to get their music videos everywhere.”

Philip Kaplan, DistroKid

Philip Kaplan, Founder and CEO of DistroKid, said:  “Many streaming services have begun playing music videos in addition to audio–but until now there hasn’t been a great way for independent artists to get their music videos into these services.

DistroVid members can upload unlimited music videos. Membership costs $99 per year. Competitors charge close to that per video. And as always with DistroKid, the service is easy to use, blazingly-fast and artists keep 100% of their earnings. More information about the new service can be found at distrovid.com.

“Now more than ever, music videos are an essential part of an artist’s release strategy, providing a valuable promotional opportunity to connect with fans on a deeper level.

“We’re so excited to assist in building an additional bridge for artists to their fans and to bring their music videos to more screens, and more music fans, across the globe.”

“With DistroVid, we’re excited to be giving independent artists a more simplified way to share video content with their fans on Tidal.”

Dan Murphy, TIDAL

Dan Murphy, SVP of Partnerships & Business Development at TIDAL said: “At TIDAL, we value bringing fans and artists closer together, and video is an integral part of building a connection.

“With DistroVid, we’re excited to be giving independent artists a more simplified way to share video content with their fans on Tidal.”

DJ Hoppa, an artist and also founder of label Broken Complex said: “I’ve always stressed the importance of music videos to every artist we’ve worked with–videos really help give potential fans a way to connect with both the artist and their music.

“Up until now it’s been expensive and difficult to add my music videos to streaming services, which means our fans are forced to bounce between different apps to see them. DistroVid changes all that.

“The new tool makes it easy and affordable to upload as many videos as I want, then send them directly to where fans are already listening to my music. DistroVid is going to be a game-changer for my independent label and for independent artists everywhere.”Music Business Worldwide
